October Foodie Penpals Package!

When I discovered the Foodie Penpals program on The Lean Green Bean, I was super excited – food! new food! someone picking food for me! me sending food! – yes, very excited! I received my package wrapped up in cute pink princess wrapping paper, which my son absolutely adored and insisted on carrying home for me.

Here’s my big boy carrying his lovely pink package!

My penpal was Deborah from Gourmet Mom, a fellow Canadian blogger who lives in a city in Ontario – not far from where I grew up!

02
Mama, I got this! What’s in here? Food?
03
You said there’s food in here?? I can’t wait!! Yum, yum, yum!

Since this was my first foodie penpal exchange, I wasn’t sure what to expect – and I didn’t realise how hard it would be to shop for someone across the country either… Should I add tea or coffee, should it be sweet inspired or savoury goodies? It wasn’t easy and I sent it late (oops!) but it was a ton of fun trying to figure out what she might like!

Let’s open this baby up!

Aaah, the goodies revealed!!

I felt so spoiled! Deborah sent me a wonderful note card letting me know why she sent what she did, and here’s the rundown:

  • Snowballs for my daughter
  • Buttons for my son
  • Granola & goulash sauce mix from a Polish store 🙂
  • Spanish Paprika
  • Dutch wafers
  • Bavarian-style mustard
  • Windy City mix Cheddar & Caramel popcorn

Thank you, thank you, thank you Deborah!! My daughter adored the snowballs, as did my husband, and my son received a chocolate button after dinner one day and his eyes went bigger than the chocolate! I love anything from Polish stores, especially since we have NOTHING in the town that I live! I love spices and the Spanish paprika was a treat, as were the Dutch wafers. We used the Bavarian-style mustard on our Oktoberfest-inspired dinner of sausages and potato salad last weekend. But the real winner in this package?

The popcorn.

I mentioned to Deborah that I love sweet & salty flavours, together. When I opened up this popcorn, I wasn’t sure what to expect – how would they mix the cheddar and the caramel flavours? It was literally a half and half bag – half the popcorn covered in cheddar powder, the other have was caramel corn. It seemed weird. And was absolutely delicious!

My husband and I finished the bag while watching New Girl, and were fighting over the last few pieces… which I won!

But what did Holland love?

06
He was somehow convinced that the paprika was something he needed in his life.
07
Wait, the mustard too. Paprika & mustard. What a combination!

Mama! I can’t wait until next foodie penpal exchange!!
