How I Lost 27 Pounds in 40 Days with HCG

I began the year with determination and resolve – this was going to be the year that I finally changed my eating habits for good, the year I’ll lose weight and become healthy and active again. What better way to kickstart these habits by attempting to lose 40 pounds in 40 days?

I tried out the HCG diet, also known as the “40 Pounds in 40 Days” diet. This incredible dieting opportunity came from Dr. Allana Polo, from the Polo Health & Longevity Centre in New Westminster, who was there for me every step of the way, coaching me and helping me along when I needed it.

The HCG diet helped me lose 27 pounds in 40 days, without losing muscle mass – no other low calorie diet can do this! The weight I lost on the HCG diet was mainly fat, which is absolutely amazing.

The HCG Diet

This simple diet consists of taking an HCG hormone and restricting calorie intake to only 500. While this sounds shocking, it actually isn’t. The hormone causes your body to eat away at the fat stores at a rate of up to 4,000 calories per day, so while you’re ingesting about 500, your body is getting rid of the fat on your body, and you’re not hungry

Really, you weren’t hungry? The first week or two can be hard as your body detoxes from sugar, alcohol, and processed foods, but eating at regular times daily, your body gets used to eating real foods – think fruits, veggies, and lean proteins. If you MISS a meal or a snack, you will definitely be hungry, but keeping on track of what you’re eating, you become accustomed to smaller portions as your stomach shrinks.

Keeping Track

When joining the program at the Polo Health & Longevity Centre, I received a full HCG program book, that describes the diet, provides recipes, and contains a daily weight loss log and a daily food diary. By keeping track of what you’re eating, you can easily point out the reason for your weight gain or loss.

HCG Diet Food Diary

The Numbers

Starting Weight: 209 pounds

Ending Weight: 182 pounds

Starting BMI: 31.8

Ending BMI: 28

Thanks to the HCG diet, I dropped 27 pounds – and I didn’t even work out! It was difficult at times, but with determination and support, anyone can do it!

5 Tips to Diet Success!

Maintenance Mode

After losing weight quickly, it’s very important that you help your body maintain your weight loss. It’s a bit of a shock for your body to lose so much weight, and if you go back to eating what you were before the diet, you will likely gain most of your weight back!

I am currently in the first phase of the Maintenance program, which slowly introduces fats, and more of a variety of fruits, vegetables, and proteins, back into your diet.

My Weight Loss Journey

I feel incredible. I am so happy that I was able to lose a chunk of weight so quickly. My weight loss journey is on the right track – I have much more weight to lose, and also, I will be incorporating fitness into my program.

The HCG Diet has opened my eyes to my horrible eating habits. It’s brought me back to all-natural and unprocessed foods. It makes me cook more from scratch, and create more healthy meals for my family. It’s helped discover an underlying gluten intolerance in my husband. It’s helped me realize my emotional eating habits and how to combat them.

I know you’re looking for before and after pictures, and I promise I will be posting them shortly… For now, check out the other bloggers that participated in the HCG Weight Loss Program from the Polo Health & Longevity Centre!

  • Congrats!!! very impressive, I am really overweight in fact the doctors say I’m obese, and to be able to do something like this would be awesome, we never get take out and I always cook from scratch, plus there is a ton of fresh veggies and fruit in my home all the time and I juice, hard to believe I’m obese when eating healthy, my metabolism must really suck..lol

    • That’s why I did this diet! Because it seemed like no matter what I did, I wasn’t getting results. This rebooted my metabolism and I got results 🙂

  • Congrats on your weight loss and above all, your determination to do it. 🙂 Good luck on your journey. Thanks for sharing .

  • congratulations on the weight loss! and what a great post. i have been working out and trying to lose my baby weight since january. so far i have lost 16 pounds. only 5 more to go to get to my pre baby weight 🙂

  • WOW you lost a lot of weight on this plan. I think it sounds like a good way to lose the weight. I need to lose weight also!

  • WOW!! Congratulations. I don’t know if I could do that. I like the concept of it. I am very skeptical of only consuming the 500 calories without affecting your muscle. Keep it up!!! You’re doing fantastic.

  • I’m trying to lose a few pounds too and have tried restricting my calorie intake to 800 a day but haven’t seen much results.

  • Very inspiring. I have been faithful to my resolution of exercise and cutting way back on sugar. I just can’t wait for warm weather to include outside walking. All the best to you!

  • Hi. Its great that you’re pleased with your personal change. You say at the start that you want to be healthy and active. But then you say that you achieved weight loss with no exercise and a synthetic hormone supplement. I really dont want to rain on your parade and sponsorship but it seems contradictory.

  • tomorrow is my last day of my 40 days too!! my goal was 25 lbs, but I’m thinking it will be more like 22! still amazing though!! then I go paleo for 3 weeks. good work!!:))

  • Good for you for having this amount of discipline. However, eating 500 calories a day is very dangerous. Your brain needs at least 1200 to function properly. Eating 500 calories a day or less is classified as anorexia. You are not getting enough nutrients with this diet. I know you found success, but is it really a success if it is unhealthy?

  • I would like to caution anyone considering this weight loss approach. I understand my situation was rare, however just in case, there is something women should know about taking HCG hormone. I had a form of reproductive cancer called Choriocarsinoma where HCG was my tumour marker. Although I reached remission, the only way my cancer can ever return is if I were to have elevated levels of HCG in my body. Although rare, if any other women had these cancer cells and did not know it yet, and were to try this weight loss method, it could be a fatal decision. Just a warning.

  • I did the hcg diet 3 years ago and lost 162lbs. I have since gained some back and feel only way to lose again is to do that diet. I give everyone credit that can do it. It WD the hardest thing that I have done. But u feel so much better about yourself when your done

  • Great story and congrats on the weight loss. Do you know of any clinics like this one (Polo) that are located in NY? I imagine it would be best to actually go to the clinic to get the best results and I’m not going to be in Canada. Thanks:)

  • Congratulations on your weight loss. I did this diet 3 yrs ago and in 42 days I also lost 44lbs. I was in shock. Any of you girls that have commented above, at least look into it. My cousin lost over 50lbs. It can work for anyone!!!! Definitely get it from your Dr. … Kris

  • Congrats in weight loss. I have 30 to lose and would love to lose it in 6 weeks. Question, does one have to take the hormone?
What if I can’t get it over here in the uk?

  • I did Hcg and lost weight, but if you don’t eat really healthy after and exercise you will GAIN ALL THE WEIGHT BACK. Try the Military diet.
