Amsterdam is synonomous with many things: canals, coffeeshops*, architecture, red light districts, and bikes. If you’re a first timer in Amsterdam, you might get a little overwhelmed with all the traffic on the streets: cars, taxis, buses, motorcycles, scooters and bicycles take over the streets, and one step in the wrong lane may have you running back to the airport (or at least to the safety of your hotel).

The first time I visited Amsterdam I stepped in a few bike lanes, and realised that bikes will not stop for you. Oh no, you better jump out of the way, or be with someone with the sense to pull you out of the way. If you hear that ringing bell of a bicycle then it’s almost too late!

Even though I was terrified of the bike traffic, I still wanted to rent a bike there! You know, ‘do things that scare you’ and all that. But Jay didn’t ever want to! No matter where we are, he refuses – does he think the helmet will mess up his hair? View Post

01A Bavarian-style village that serves huge beers, tons of bratwurst with sauerkraut, and is surrounded by mountains, rivers and forests – Leavenworth is a little slice of heaven. We had such  great time there with the family, we explored, ate, drank, and were merry – Jay even snuck in a mountain bike ride! Below is the view from our hotel room at the Icicle Resort – waking up to that every day made me smile.

eurp_0911_04_o+leavenworth_drive+welcome_signAs you’re reading this I am on the road with Jay & the family to Leavenworth, Washington! We’ve been wanting to check out this little Bavarian town for some time, and decided that there’s no better time to do so than for Oktoberfest! The drive takes about five hours and then we’re gone for 4 days… eating sausage, drinking beer, and watching stars in the hot tub at night.

If you want to follow along on my trip, I’ll be posting on instagram and tweeting about it 🙂

Leavenworth1Today I’m also being featured as a sponsor on Créatrice Mondial, so if you’re stopping in from there today – hello darlings! If it’s your first time here you may also want to read about Our Home Build, my attempts in minimalism and Living with Less, and my struggles with motivation and losing weight.

If you follow me on pinterest you might have noticed all the airstream pictures I’ve been pinning lately… Jay & I have decided to take the plunge and purchase an airstream trailer! We haven’t purchased it yet, and we’re tossed up between a 31 footer and a 26 footer 70s-era airstream trailer, but we’re so inspired to make it our own minimalist dream!

Jay & I love to travel but since having the kids our travel has dwindled down immensely. We get these grand ideas of road trips down the West Coast, but then I start to get anxious and worry about the kids – the two of us can easily sleep in a car, grab a night in a Bed & Breakfast, eat whenever we’re hungry – basically travel and not have to PLAN it all to the last second.
