We’ve decided to put our house up for sale.
I really hate even typing that sentence. It was a difficult decision, one that took months and months of back and forth conversation, but in the end we decided it was the best thing we could do for our family. The house that we built from a dream. The house that we put months, even years, of sweat equity into, making it our own. (Check out our home tour here.) And yet… View Post
When I was asked to be an Ambassador for Frigidaire I was absolutely thrilled – it couldn’t have come at a better time. My family had quickly outgrown the small European-style fridge that we’d had for less than a year, the bottom freezer proved to be a problem for my toddler who couldn’t reach anything, and with every shopping trip our fridge would be packed to the brim – which led to a lot of food spoilage in the end.
I fell in love with the Frigidaire Custom-Flex Top Freezer Fridge with Smudge-Proof Stainless Steel from the start. The ability to customize the fridge to my family’s needs is great, as well as the fridge’s ability to adapt to change as we grow as well. The brightly-lit fridge with glass shelving allowed us to find things easily, had ample room for all of our food, and tons of room for veggies and fruits.
My kids can easily find and grab their own snacks, like yogurts, baby carrots, juices, or cheese, which teaches them self-reliance and gives them confidence in establishing independence in the home. They try to clean up after themselves, which is absolutely darling – although I need to do a quick wipe-up after! But that’s the great thing about this fridge, if little fingers are all over it, a quick wipe and it looks new again! View Post
When I need something for my house, the first place I look is always Simple Human. Their designs are sleek, modern, and uber practical, especially for our family. I love the look of their items, with their sleek and fingerprint-proof stainless steel, and the durability can’t be beat.
I was looking for a solution to our garbage and recycling issues. I really wish I had taken a “before” picture to show you what a mess that corner used to be. A garbage bin with no lid and a bright blue recycling box overflowing with cardboard, paper, and cans. It was a disaster! I avoided looking at that corner, and if friends came over I would try to hide everything in the closet!
Solution? The Simple Human 48-Litre Steel Bar Recycler. Durable enough for a family, practical enough to hold all my waste and recycling in one beautiful steel container. View Post
Kids furniture should be durable, stylish, and affordable, and the ‘green’ choices at BuyGreen.com are also eco-friendly! I have a really tough time finding furniture for my kids – it’s either over-priced or cheaply made, and I certainly don’t want to spent a ton of money on furniture that will likely be turned into art by way of crayons and highlighters! I try to find used furniture pieces to add to my home, sometimes refurbishing an item can give it a new life in a home! However, it isn’t exactly affordable purchasing a used piece of ‘modern’ furniture (if it has ‘mid-century’ in the title, watch for extra zero’s added!).
I am always scouring the BuyGreen site for items that are needed in my home – this online shop has absolutely everything eco-friendly including clothing, health and beauty products, items for your office, and even furniture! I was super curious about the line of WayBasics furniture made of zBoards, which claims to be the ‘World’s Easiest Assembly’, and uses no tools to put their furniture together.
The prices were very affordable and the modular cube storage was modern and fun! The shelving is light-weight but strong, each shelf can still hold about 50 pounds of weight. After some long decision making, we finally chose the Madison Bookcase for my daughter’s room (which BuyGreen supplied to us for review – thank you!). Since moving, we still hadn’t completed her bedroom (…it’s only been 5 months!) and it was difficult for her to keep her room clean and tidy. See the before picture after the jump! View Post
I am very excited to share my new home office with you. I have been waiting for a space to call my own for years and am so delighted with the way it turned out!
I spent months poring over home office inspiration, and I was so undecided about whether I wanted to spend a lot of money on a desk or if I should just buy something inexpensive. In the end my wallet won, and a trip to Ikea later, I had most of my home office ready to be put together! View Post
A side table has many uses – a place for books and magazines, a perch for your plant, a catch-all for mail and keys, or a nearby spot to place a drink – and sometimes it can be an afterthought in your overall design. Although an accent table is small, when the right design is chosen to complement your space, it can make a huge impact to your home decor.
Choosing an accent table that is mirrored, glass, chrome, or glossy brings a reflective quality to your room, adds a bit of sparkle and shine, and gives the appearance of a larger space. I’m a big fan of nesting tables because they add so much visual interest to your space, and the decorating ideas are endless!
When I was asked by Staples Canada to check out their furniture selection, I simply thought that they sold office furniture. But I quickly discovered patio sets, living room furniture, dining tables and chairs – who knew that they have so much more? They have so many trendy accent tables – from contemporary designs, industrial looking pieces, reclaimed wood and mirrored and glass finishes. View Post
I have gotten so much love from the last home blog post (thank you!) and many of you have asked to see more! Of course, I hesitate because it’s so far from done! The downstairs living area is currently one large room that contains our sofa, a tv stand and the tv – that’s it. We are working on getting the kids rooms finished first, which entails a ton of purging and storage solutions (books! toys! games! galore!) and leaves little time for the rest of the house.
Here is our master bedroom, as it sits so far. You may remember a few of these items from our previous rental, as we haven’t purchased any new furniture for our bedroom yet. But it’s simple and neat, and very relaxing for us.
Our queen-sized bed is made of reclaimed wood that was sourced from a burnt down Vancouver Mounted Police horse stable. The wood has burn marks and holes in it, and also tends to smell a bit like a barn every once in a while. We absolutely love it. View Post
