Uyu Soft Serve Ice Cream Gastown

It’s super easy to get confused when it comes to discovering what’s in your food. I’ve been reading a lot about carrageenan, the latest buzz ingredient in the food science world, and I’ve been asking myself, “Is carrageenan safe for me and my family?” and why Food Science Matters!

Are you sitting there unsure of what carrageenan is? Carrageenan is a common ingredient that is extracted from red seaweed and is typically used as a thickener and emulsifier in ice cream, yogurt, cottage cheese, soy and almond milks, and other processed foods. You can even make it yourself! View Post

Bohemian Home Decor

For me, a Bohemian style evokes imagery of macrame, relaxed silks, natural materials like rattan, and greenery. Bohemian decor in the home isn’t easy to accomplish because it’s not something that can be ‘styled’, it’s nomadic and natural, and it develops as time goes on. A trinket from a trip to some far away place, a gift from a friend, a vintage rug discovered beneath some rubbish – it takes time to have a truly effortless Bohemian home.

To add a boho chic style to your home, start small. Add one or two items which you absolutely love, and see how they will fit in – a good place to start is with throw cushions, a plant, a rug, or wall hanging. Try to reflect the colours already used in the room, or alternatively bring in a pop of colour that complements the room. View Post

Salt Spring Island

Salt Spring Island Kids

Our family’s adventure in Salt Spring Island began and ended with a ferry ride, as most island adventures in BC do. The fun starts on that big boat, with the kids trying to find all the sea creatures that play in the ocean waters, while I’m busy pointing out the houses and cottages on the Gulf Islands, and feeling the warmth of the sun on the passenger decks. When we arrived on Salt Spring Island, our family decided to drive around the island and find a beach to enjoy the heat in. We had such wonderful weather on our 4-day excursion, we were super lucky. Read on to discover where to explore, eat, and have fun on Salt Spring Island! View Post

Five years ago today, we got married in front of our closest family and friends. Our unconventional love was celebrated at the Opus Hotel in Vancouver, and we had delicious food, great music, and a super fun time. As a certified wedding planner, I was experienced with planning weddings of up to 1200 people without even breaking a sweat – for other couples. When it came to planning my own wedding, it quickly became stressful…

May is the official start of Wedding Season, that lovely time of year where everyone you know decides to get married meaning an overwhelming amount of bridal showers, bachelorette parties, and weddings that are scattered from one end of the world to the other. Whether you’re the one getting married (congrats!), apart of the wedding party, or wonderful guest, the thought of cramming multiple weddings, and the prep that goes with them, into your already overflowing schedule can seem impossible. This post is part of the YummyMummyClub.ca and the Nestlé Pure Life #RethinkYourDrink sponsored program. I received compensation as a thank you for my participation. This post reflects my personal opinion about the information provided by the sponsors.

As a mom of two quick-growing kids, I’m always looking for ways to help incorporate a healthy and active habits into our lives. Sometimes that means trying new vegetables or going for long hikes. I find it helps me stay motivated to lose weight when my family is there with me!

Drinking enough water each day is a struggle for me! I start each and every morning with the best of intentions to stay hydrated and drink enough water throughout the day. I start with a litre of water each morning, then at work I attempt to remind myself to drink water, but by nightfall I realize that I sometimes don’t reach my water goal.

That’s why I was super stoked on trying out the Wellness Week Challenge featuring Nestlé Pure Life Sparkling Water. Rethink Your Drink by simply switching your sugared beverages for a Nestlé Pure Life Sparkling Carbonated Natural Spring Water. Do this once a day for 7 days you can say goodbye to extra sugar, calories, and sodium! It’s a delicious way to say buh-bye to sugary drinks, but also bring some life to your water-filled days!

The sparkles add a bit of light to my everyday routine and makes me look forward to drinking water! It’s no longer something I have to do, but something that I want to do, and with five delicious flavours, it’s no wonder that I’ve become obsessed!

My favourite flavours have to be Raspberry Lime, Mandarin Orange, and Lemon, but I also really enjoy the Natural Sparkling Spring Water variety and add cut up fruits to the glass to add some colour to it!

Now, my kids are reaching for sparkling water rather than sugar-filled juices or pop cans, and I can feel good about that! I love that Nestlé Pure Life Sparkling Water contains 0 calories, 0 sugar, and 0 sodium, it’s helping me reach my weight loss goals day by day!
